Well if that is you idea of Apple why the hell are they so popular. Comparing Apple to BMW is treason. Dell is more suitable to BMW, mass produced, common as muck, and even full of more poo.

If your going to compare Apple to any automobile manufacturer, make it Audi or better.

Maybe you arent from around here. BMW is a high class car in the US.

The point is that the Dell notebook doesn't have all those extras, it has practically exactly the same as the MBP, even better in some cases. (screen res)

I don't have the decision to make. I need to use a program which is only compatible with Mac OS X. I just wanted to shed some light on the fact that while people may insist on backing Apple up with everything and refusing to hear a bad word about them, they aren't any better than Dell/HP/Microsoft etc.

That Dell notebook I linked to is a canceled order from Dell. In other words it's unopened and in perfect condition with warranty. I'd consider it much better than the 17" MBP which is $2000 more. If someone doesn't "need" a Mac, why on earth would they choose one over that Dell?

$2000 is a hell of a big difference to look "cool".

Point well taken I see and understand what your saying.

That just reminds me that the UPS trucks here in Spain are Mercedes. I laugh every time I see one.

All the same, once you drop 40k on a computer then you can compare it to a car, until then, this is the worst analogy ever and you'll get no where with it.

Don't know why the OP missed it, but the screen on that Dell has the EXACTLY same res. as the Hi-rez Mac! :)

Looking at the Dell I'm still quite satisfied with my MBP :D

Plus you can't run OS X on the Dell ;-)

Yours is a perfectly valid point of view, but there are some folks, myself included, who just despise the Windows user experience to the point that if it meant having to use Windows all the time, they might just opt to never use a computer again. For these people, it's not about looking cool or exclusivity or elitism. It's just a preference that's important enough to them that money isn't an issue.

If OS X would run on cheaper hardware---even if that hardware were bulkier, clunkier, heavier and uglier---then I would likely go that route. But the other side of the coin is that I would also gladly pay twice what I've paid, if necessary, to get the Mac ownership experience.

That said, I have more money than I have sense.
