Compare the Meerkat Virus??

Hi,

Strange problem... Every so often my Macbook will play the audio from a compare the meerkat advert off the telly. Now my first though was that it was some pop-up from the internet but it happened to me earlier today and i didnt have Safari or any other web browser open. It has been happening for a few months now but is very random and rare in when it happens and i dont think anything i do triggers it.

Any Suggestions?

Mac Virus/Malware Info

It's not a virus. You may have an app that's using that as an alert, such as Skype or Mail or another app that makes audible sounds to notify you of events. Check Activity Monitor to see what's running. You can also use Finder to search for any audio or video files with "meerkat" in the file name.
 
Have a look at Activity Monitor ( Applications / Utilities / ) and select All Processes and sort by Process Name to see what the culprit may be.

Then press CMD+A to select all processes, CMD+C to copy them to the clipboard, and paste the clipboard into your next post via CMD+V.

Has anybody had access to your computer since you have it?

No one other than myself has used my Mac. Ive had it since June 09.

I was about to say no, but then i have just checked dashboard and found the culprit!

Looks like someone has been on my mac after all.

The bolded processes might be worth taking a look at and at their preferences. Also have a look at your Dashboard widgets.

As I don't know that "meerkat commercial", is it the exact same soundtrack?
