Compass calibration

Every time I pick up my 7 plus the location services arrow lights up and compass calibration is using my location. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm on 10.0.2

Quick related question, is there no calibration app for the compass like in older iphones? The screen where you turn the phone etc to calibrate it?

I would assume it's done automatically now, but I don't know that.

Perhaps it just comes up (automatically) if/when it might be needed?
