Compass in Maps app

Just got my iPad 3G.
While using the built in Maps app, i wanted to know how some people got the option to turn Compass on/off with the slider.

I know you can double tap the My Location icon on Maps to get it. but wasnt sure if i was missing something.

Trying to figure the same thing out. And his I believe was the wifi version if I'm not mistake...well regardless it'd be a handy option.

You can just tap and hold the location button on the top bar, or swipe up on it, to enable the compass.

yep, as notated in the original post. just curious on the switch itself. being a tad more handier and apparent than the My Location feature.
