Hello. I have a file created using the Mac version of Illustrator CS5.5. When I opened the file under the Windows version of CS5.5 (running under Win XP Mode on a Windows 7 partition), I found that the background color is either disappeared or changed to white. Is this a compatibility problem? Any other problems in running other CS5.5 programs under Win XP Mode? I have Illustrator 10.1 and Photoshop 4. They don't seem to work well under Windows 7. So, I tried to run them under under Windows XP Mode. Unfortunately, there seem to have compatibility problems with XP Mode as well. In both cases, the colors do not seem to match and in Illustrator, the letters are misplaced. Thanks.

Just for a little clarification, are you running Illustrator CS5 or Illustrator 10 under windows? Illustrator 10 is quite old, and you are right, it has issues with windows 7. CS5 should run fine under windows 7.

I too used to use Illustrator 10 under XP mode, but recently got rid of XP mode and run it under windows 7 native. It works fine other than changing from aero to basic mode. As for your background issue, it might be an issue opening new versions of illustrator files with old versions. You may want to try saving as Illustrator 10 compatible files. Also, it might be that Illustrator 10 by default hides the background color to save memory. I looked thru the options and didn't find that option, but I thought it's common in vector graphics based programs to hide the background.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried different combinations among Illustrator 10, CS5, Windows XP Mode and Windows 7.

On the net, there are postings about making Illustrator 10 compatible with Windows 7 by right-clicking and choose compatible. I don't find this to be helpful.

Anyway, I am running Illustrator CS5.5 under XP Mode. When I opened a file created by Illustrator CS5.5 on the Mac, the background color of the figure either disappeared or changed to white.

I opened the same figure file (created by Illustrator CS5.5 on Mac OS) using Photoshop CS5 under Windows XP Mode. Again, background color disappeared or turned white. In addition, the edge of the figure box looks ugly and fuzzy instead of sharp, straight lines. Anybody knows if:

    1. Figures/photos/movies created using Adobe Products under Mac OS look the same when
opened by the corresponding applications under Windows 7 or Windows XP Mode?

    2. Is there a color compatibility issue between Windows 7 and XP Mode?

For one, Helvetica font is not available out of the box under Windows. So, letters of this font type are substituted when the file is opened under Windows.
