Why were you checking his email??!? lol. Anyways, check his myspace profile, get his name, and report it to apple.

No no no, I used MY username and password...and for some reason it brought me into his account. It showed me his friends, but my emails. Either something got all screwed up, or he changed my friends, pictures, and...not my email? Probably just a myspace error. Or I somehow got hacked. But either way I still do not agree that Apple should have been using my internet. They don't get paid to play on myspace.

what if your machine doesn't boot up anymore. then you have to send your mac with all your data in. of course you would have a backup. but i need to know that my data will be treated confidential. and people using my computer for private purposes doesn't make me trust their service at all.

A very rare case scenario but I concede in that event I would indeed be left with no choice but to send in the computer as is IF I wasn't able to use Disk Utility from the install DVD to format/repair/wipe the drive and chances are if I'M not able to do that Apple won't either so I still wouldn't need to worry much. They would remove and replace the HD.

I get your point though and as I said I was NOT condoning the personal usage of computers in for repair. I think that stinks but just urge folks to protect themselves from that sort of thing as much as possible.

Fire the dude off an email letting him know that you're hip to the trip and that what he did wasnt cool. That way if anything funky starts occurring with your system as a result of this - which let's face it, the chances are very remote, you've got it covered. I wouldn't tell on him- that's kind of lame, especially for something so trivial as looking at his myspace page, but hey, you do what you gotta do- there's no doubt this guy was in the wrong, I just don't think I'd be comfortable taking away a guys livelihood over something like this. I'd probably take the opposite approach and shoot for making this guy my own personal apple genius for awhile-lol- but that's just me.
;-)

Are you going to do anything about it or are you just going to keep complaining about it?

I already did something about it this morning. And, I came here for advice. I don't need someone like yourself speaking like that to me. THANKS :)

While I'm not condoning the practice of using customer's computers for personal use I always back up my Macs completely to an external HD, format and clean install Leopard with a generic user account and no password before sending it in to Apple for service.

Thus, I really wouldn't care what they look at on the machine.

Protect yourselves.

That's exactly what I do. It's even easier now with Time Machine.
