I was curious if any of you who own or know someone who own a new iMac Intel have had any real problems with them. I am considering when the upgraded line comes out to get one but I wouldn't want to get something of bad nature. I remember everyone was so amazed by the first flat screen iMac and a few people I knew with em greatly regreted it.

So let me hear some feedback.

    Thanks :)

All I've heard is that the iMacs had video tearing when they went into Frontrow. Other then that I don't know of anything.

The tearing issue only affected a few computers, and it was fixed with the february osx update.
I have an intel imac and it's lovely. Best mac I ever had. People just love to whine.

    Keyboard Problems

Since purchasing our 20" Intel iMac a week ago, I have had to unplug and plug the keyboard back in many times because either some keys (volume) didn't work or the entire keyboard didn't work. There was really no rhyme or reason for when it would happen. Most of the time, it would happen while typing mid sentence.

I contacted Apple Support thinking I had a faulty keyboard and was told that they were aware of the problem and were working on an update. The tech I talked to didn't know when the update would be out but based on his response, I can only assume that many other people have complained about the same thing.

Other than the keyboard thing, the Intel iMac works flawlessly. Couldn't be happier.

Only problem I've got with mine is the well-documented wifi issue - which should hopefully be fixed with a firmware update.

Other than that I can't really fault it. I'm very happy with its overall responsiveness. Build quality is great, the screen is excellent. The only worry I had before I ordered it was just how well it would run PPC applications (that I cared about), and I'm happy to report MS Office works great. :D

I would recommend at least 1GB of RAM.

While I did have some issues originally -first few units from the Jan 10th announcement. Pretty happy with my current iMac(intel).

Issues: WiFI - there are workarounds until Apple fixes - but its irritating
Sleep: - Weird behavior upon waking up and what will wake up/i.e. Keyboard /Mouse

Outside of those two issues - this is a pretty neat computer. I LOVE the screen, speed, ease of use with OS(X) - am a new switcher

I would heartily advise this as a great computer!

i just set one up and i am not 100% percent familiar with all the bells and whistles of tiger (os x 10.4) and the mac help menu was not a help concerning issues about the voice over utility

setup was rather quick but that has been the main strong point of macs over pcs in owning a machine in the first week

the packaging of the 20" inch intel imac was immaculate

i like the clean look of the machine but i wish the on switch was on the front

boot up and shut down are very quick

if i had to rate this machine on just what i saw, i would give it 4 stars out of 5

And the noise?? Tell us about the noise of these things? What noises can you hear? Fan, DVD drive, hard drive...etc? How silent are these things?

I too have keyboard/mouse issues with my iMac. It seems to have been allayed somewhat by plugging my mouse directly into the iMac's USB port, but frankly I cannot wait for the update...having to randomply unplug it and then plug it back in can get irritating fast.

Other than that I have had no issues.

    ::crosses fingers::

As for noise, I've not heard anything yet and I'm going on 2 weeks. Only time will tell, though.

the noise level is a little more than my ibook but less than a dual processor G5 powermac, so the new intel imac is rather quiet

I have not had any issues with my imac and I love it too, but I will probably give my girlfriend my 17" and get another 20" for myself. Right now I'm okay since I have a dell 20" side by side with my imac.

In the past weeks I've seen a few complaints about:

-non/half-working keyboards (Apple replaces keyboard, no prob.)
-misaligned displays (perfectionist stuff IMO )
-misaligned dvd-drive (only one complainer but he got two units that had this)
-display adapter/corrupt display trouble (mine went back because of that and I know of two other machines with this)

I'm fairly confident that the wi-fi issue will be fixed on a software update and most other troubles are single cases. Only the keyboard problem seems to be a bit more common.

But as always: you don't really hear that much from those persons who have a fully functioning iMac so only the occasional complaints get registered. Chances are you'll get a fine example. And if you don't, Apple's service is top notch.

Interesting, mine is significantly quieter than my old iBook (800 MHz G3). It's almost silent, I can only hear it at night when there are no ambient noises around, and even then I need to be within a metre of it.

friend has had a DC 2.0/20 for several weeks. i should have never looked! now want to sell my dual 1.8 powermac. beautiful, quiet, way faster than my setup, and so far in his case, one lockup that was due to burning a dvd on the internal drive while ripping cd's on an external usb drive and surfing the internet (on the wireless connection which works fine) at the same time. the thing is just amazing.

Mine works wonderfully. The only flaw that I note is the keyboard/mouse problems. I didn't want to handle this machine all that often, but now I have to tip it forward and unplug/replug a couple times a day. I haven't had any problems with wireless, tearing (it was fixed before my machine), noise (it's silent), burning DVDs, or anything else.

The display is incredible -- clear and bright, to the point that I have it turned down to about 33% because it hurts my eyes otherwise. Even so, it makes my CRT (extending the desktop) and my wife's Samsung LCD panel both look absolutely wretched.
