completely turn off trackpad

i've asked this before and didn't get many responses. hopefully someone can help me.

my track pad is broken (early 09 macbook aluminum), i have been using an external mouse because the trackpad is always "pressed" and highlights/drags everything. is there a way to shut the trackpad completely off?
