I have a problem . my movie files are taking too much room on my mac and i want to put them on a external hard drive .. my main objective to compress the files into one big file.. Example . I have the Sopranos tv series on my laptop and i want to be make some of the seasons fit into one file

I think the problem you will run into is if you do compress the video, a compressed single file, it will have to be uncompressed to playback. Most container formats like ISO are not compressed but allow you to store video parts into one convient container. I rip all my DVDs to ISO format because of this. I think the best you can do is use something like handbrake to reduce the size of the playback file and maybe use a ISO container. But then you would need playback software that understands ISO containers. One such program is Kodi. Other then that I think you are probably going to need larger hard drives.
