Hey guys, this may be a very simple question for you but here it goes anyways...

I have a friend that has some .avi files he needs compressed to be emailable and to be posted on a website. What are some free apps I can use to achieve this? The .avi files are about 100 meg. Shouldn't it be as simple as some conversion software? Obviously some quality will be lost compressing the files this much but will it be extremely noticeable? Thanks for all the helps guys!

Does it need to remain AVI?

Anyhoo, Visual Hub is okay, I prefer ffmpeg. There is a frontend for that at http://www.ffmpegx.com/. It's free and will convert almost anything to almost anything.

Another alternative is Quicktime Pro, but that's something you'd have to buy and is somewhat limited for exporting outside the Quicktime format.

You could upload them to youtube, or someplace like that. If they are going to be publicly viewed movies.

Then just link to them in your email client or website.
