Last night my computer crashed and I couldn't shut it down. There was no mouse curser. I tried pushing the escape route and that wouldn't work. I tried pushing the power button on the side and that wouldn't work. I have an eMac.
So I did the unthinkable -- I unplugged it and re-plugged in.
If this happens again, what other options do I have?

How long did you hold the power button for? When a machine is hung ot crahsed, it takes several seconds for the power button to respond.

Yea, you can't simply press the power button. You might have to hold it down up to 5 seconds for it to respond. Trust me it works.

ok thanks. I only pushed it. I didn't hold it in for any length of time.

actually, I used to use an emac... and when the damn thing would crash, it would crash hard! I would hold the power button for damn near 30 seconds, with no response. sometimes the only way to fix an eMac crash is to unplug it. it happened all the time to me, and the computer still worked fine after that
