Hi all, I am on a MacBook (Leopard) and trying to use iMovie, but neither the program or the computer is recognizing the camcorder (plugged in a firewire port). It is a Canon ZR500 miniDV, very simple. Can't get past this simple step. I'd appreciate if someone can help me. Many thanks

For starters, I'd try the following (not aiming to be condescending, just making sure the basics are taken care of):

1. Put Mac to sleep.
2. Switch camera off.
3. Make sure FW connecters are snug at each end, Mac and camera.
4. Bring Mac back to life.
5. Open iMovie.
6. Switch on camera and select whatever mode the handbook recommends for importing to a computer.
7. Switch iMovie to camera / import mode.
8. Wait for five minutes before giving up.

If that doesn't work, try again, switching steps 5 and 6.

If that doesn't work, you're on your own!

Cheers,
Andrew.
