Does anyone know if this is because of the actual SSD or because of the hdd ribbon connection? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418587381.292302.jpg nothing has come up for the selection in a long time.. I guess this could explain why I can't mount my SSD or partition it.. Wondering if that cable fried itself?

Could my SSD be dead?

With a new SSD you need to create a partition before it can become a selectable volume to install.

Go to the pull down menus and run the Disk Utility. If you don't see the SSD listed, then there is likely some sort of hardware problem. If you see the SSD listed, create a partition and then you will be able to install Yosemite.

Hope this helps.

I installed this SSD about a month ago and it worked fine until this morning.. Now it's acting like it doesn't exist..

Ah ok. Then the only way to troubleshoot would be to throw the SSD into another computer to determine if it is your computer that is the problem or the SSD.

When SSDs go, they often fail completely without warning. It is quite possible that it is the SSD rather than the cable especially if you have not done any repairs on the inside of the machine. Does the SSD appear as a device in Disk Utility?

It does appear there but I keep getting a message saying that I can't partition it because it's unmounted.. And I can't mount it.. Also it doesn't show up when I try to recover to it

Sounds like the SSD controller went...

The SSD seems like it's not even recognized.. Now I put the old hdd in and tried to download Yosemite from the App Store via Internet recovery and it said it would take 40 hours to install so I cancelled it and tried a recover from time machine backup but it's still searching for idk why..

Try using Ethernet. What speed is your Internet connection?

Idk what the hell is going on but now I tried to restore and I chose my hdd but it is saying it's locked and I go into disk utilities and it says it's un mounted

Try booting a completely independent USB installer and using the Erase tab in Disk Utility.

Tried erasing and got the disk is not mounted error code.. Now it just said "the volume mackintosh hd could not be repaired" great.....

Try an SMC reset and PRAM.

Tried it.. Doesn't work... This is garbage. I have a final this week and need this computer.. I've tried all day today to fix it.. I think it's fried.. Fml again cannot unmount

I doubt it is the logic board. I would try a new SATA cable.

People said to replace the hdd ribbon.. It's telling me the hard drive is locked (im in os recovery mode) and it also says The hdd has 650mb of space when it's a 250gb hard drive!

Insert the disk into a USB port and hold OPT at boot.

I tried that but when I got to the "where to install" my hdd wasn't available.. I think my computer is completely ******* yay now apple gets more of my $$$$$ fml

You can try connecting the SSD to a USB port with the adapter and booting off of that.

I'm going to take it to the Apple Store next week. I really appreciate your help.. I'm about a second away from throwing this stupid computer at the wall..... It literally lasted <4 years wtf
