Few more feedback for Edgewiser

So far I have played music via Itune constantly as my Imac is in my kitchen.

My reaction is still the same even after few days later.
This is definitely is a great speakers for music.

To be fair to Z-2300, it is in the $100 price while the best I got for Altec is $158 via Dell, or 58% price increase. For gaming and those who are on budget, there's no shame with Z-2300.

However, like you Edgewiser, I wanted musical speakers that surrounds the environment like a concert hall. Ofcourse you won't get such speaker from a computer as a source, 2.1 system, with cost of less than $200 range but considering these limitations, FX6021 comes pretty close to perfect for my taste (again listening to pop, jazz, and rap primarily).

Another good thing about the FX 6021, as noted above, is the balanced sub. It has enough boom but in balance with the satellites. It may not "explode" like in theaters (which I have true hometheater setup for) but for occasional viewing of DVD, it is actually quite good.

I actually purchased blind (or deaf in this case) but if I heard these speakers in store, I would have purchased them immediately.

As listed on my options, I did consider the 2.0 system but nothing in the store, including Bose, didn't meet my needs. I suspect Swan's M200 may have got me happy based on the review but unlike FX6021, there wasn't much real world experience review from the user, no store that I can test run, support/warranty structure was in question, requires more footprint on the desk, and the cost was about $60 more than FX6021. All of these things
led me to the Altec Lansing.

I will disqualify that just because I'm happy with it, you may not be as I also believe speakers are just like cars and women. Tastes differ significantly from one person to another.:)

Let me know if I can answer any other specifics regarding FX6021

Great looking speakers

Question? Could a male velcro strip be placed on the speaker and female strip be attached to the side of iMac or is the angle of the side of speaker wrong or not wide enough in order for them to attached to the iMac?

The Imac is definitely wider than the speaker.

However, the issue I see is the DVD drive.
You can move the right speaker foward to allow clearance but the front speaker will not be flush to the Imac screen.
Even if you do this, taking the CD/DVD in and out would be cumbersome since you have to push the CD/DVD pretty far in.

If you make the speaker flush to the Imac screen, then it will block the DVD drive.

So although the idea is cool and it will look nice, it's a bad idea due to the DVD drive.

Too bad, I got out my tape out last night and then went to the Altec Lansing site to get the dimensions and found that out. However, since I usually don't interchange CD or DVDs that much these days because I depend on my hard drives, I 'just' might consider it since the speaker would then be removable.

I've been looking for some speakers and I must say that the Altec Lansing look the least unsymmetric with an iMac. I'm also glad that the sound you found with them is fairly decent not at the $299 price but at the price you paid.

Thanks for the info and hope you enjoy them.
I found a torn box deal at $139 with full warranty.

The FX6021 appears to be discontinued and not in stock anywhere. Is there a suitable replacement? Is the 4021 decent?

Here?, If you want them for their Aesthetics/Sound combination, then I recommend them, but there are a host of better sound for your money.

I would highly recommend:
Swan M10 - believe me I used to love the FX6021s, but I've converted now to the Swans for the computer market

If you want something smaller, the Swan 400s

Google was the first place I looked, but even the vendors listed are all out of stock. The price seems to have gone up as well. I'm not paying $200 when I can get M-Audio monitors for $140...

I mean, like it or not, the Altecs were consisntelty at the $200 price range, you were lucky to find them at $150. I would highly recommend the Swans over any of the M-Audio low-end monitors. You really cannot rely on low-end "monitors" actually being monitors. They are really just dressed up computer speakers.

The M10s are definitely less expensive than the AV40s. I guess I'll need to measure the desk space behind my iMac to see if the sub can go there (that's generally where a directional sub would go, isn't it?).

You really can put it on the floor and the sound will still be drastically better then the FX6021's. If your iMac is going to sit in front of the sub, chances are there is going to be a lot of it blocked out by the computer.

I emailed the guy listed on the Swans site as the UK reseller, but it turns out he just stocks the drivers.

Does anybody know how I could get my hands on some?

i still like my creature II speaker (white ones i have but you also get them in other colors like silver or black )designwise they look like they had been made for my eMac despite the original build in ones are good ,but i did want a bit more noise in tha house and value for money the jbl creatures offer both a sound you can listen too and they are not expensive , a third big point the design is great not just some rectangular boxes
on my iMac g3 i dont use external speakers as the build in ones from harman kardon sound fantastic for their size
