Hello, I left my fully updated phone with a classmate for like 2 minutes as we were doing a group project and for a second or two (1-2 mins) and I walked off and had my phone unlocked. When I had returned the same screen was open but I realized my mistake. Is there anything he could have done with that time slip to do anything malicious to my phone?

I will be checking app downloads, apple id logins and be changing my password just curious if there was anything he would be able to do that would persist in the off chance he did anything. (Which is extremely, extremely low)

Thank you.

The most "malicious" thing I can imagine a classmate doing would be logging in on Whatsapp Web (or on the equivalent web client or on a second instance of any messaging app you guys are using) to spy on your messages.

He would not be able to change passwords or do much with the Apple ID.

Right, so you dont think this kid has the time to do anything like changing the password or downloading something malicious?

Thanks

I doubt he would have had time to do anything malicious. It seems unlikely he had some dastardly scheme all planned in the event someone handed him their iPhone. I’d let it go and sleep well tonight.

Correct.

As already stated:
You usually cannot change any password without entering the old one.

And as for downloads, authentication (i.e., password, Face ID, Touch ID) is required to download free apps/games, not just paid.

So, like @ManuCH explained, the worst thing, if any, would probably be social tampering (e.g., viewing private messages or posting as you).

I had also reviewed camera footage from our facility and the footage pretty much showed he didn’t touch anything, however it records skipping over every 10-15 seconds within a frame, so I wanted to ask if there was anything I could check in settings or vis iCloud to see if any thing has been altered or tampered with?

I have already checked to see if the Phone was enrolled into any suspicious MDM profiles, and according to the settings there are none, anything else I can check for?

Lets say if it did occur that there was malicious intention, is there anyway that this individual could have installed malware with the phone unlocked within a 1-2 minute interval? I also have lockdown mode enabled for additional security, so I wanted to ask the people with knowledge. I’ll be sure not to slip up like that again.

Thanks for all of the help.

You've received enough information and opinions from forum members saying anything maliciously installed on your device is unlikely yet you keep asking the same question. You've also went as far as checking security footage and said he did nothing to your phone. I'd say your question has been answered and you should stop over thinking the situation..

You seem unhappy with the answers you've got, so I'm just gonna say what you want to hear. Yes, there is a very strong likelihood that something malicious has been installed on your phone. It's very easy to do, it only takes five seconds, and it can be virtually undetectable. I would wipe the phone and reinstall everything from scratch if I were you. Happy now?

Yeah man. Paranoia. I apologize
Have a good night

He's probably spying on you right now and stole all the money from your accounts (this is a joke - he probably did nothing).

At this point, I think he should be more concerned about protecting his privacy from you. Checking security footage, really!?

You usually cannot change any password without entering the old one. Also it's quite hard to download anything malicious to an iPhone. That would require some careful advanced planning.
Hello, thank you for your kind response.

Could you fill me in why that would require careful advanced planning?

Just wanting to learn.
Thanks

In order to download something malicious to your phone, the person needs to know in advance that they will have access to your phone (but to you it happened by mistake, so they for sure didn't plan that). They need to know what phone you have, what version of iOS, and then you need a laptop ready with some kind of government-like spyware and an appropriate cable, to basically jailbreak your phone and install whatever they wanna install.

That stuff is not only hard to get, it's also quite expensive, and in just a few minutes it's usually not done.

To make it short: the other person needs to be some cyber-spying expert having the appropriate tools and knowledge to do so.
