As the title says. There was a lot of confusion this week about whether the SS and Ti models will continue to include a Sapphire crystal display.

I’ve just received my SS (silver) S6 this morning and can confirm it has a Sapphire Crystal display.

I’m not surprised. I don’t see why Apple would subtract sapphire from the stainless model, especially given that is the main separation away from the sport/aluminum model. If Apple removed the sapphire, there would be no reason for consumers to migrate to a more expensive model, aside from a different metal (I.e Stainless, titanium).

There is no confusion every year there are a dozen idiots here asking the same question whether Apple took away Sapphire screen on SS/Ti models because it wasn't listed in the spec.
I don't think it makes someone an idiot to want to make sure that when they are spending $700+ they are getting what they expect. I'm fairly confident it used to be included in the specs. Removing that from the specs will of course cause people to question whether or not it's included.

Good to know. Just ordered the 44 mm SS with the Leather Band Link, not Leather band loop. Can anyone tell me the difference?

I wouldn’t necessarily call people idiots for wanting to confirm which screen their watch includes.

Sapphire is the reason I want a higher-end watch. If the higher-end watches don't have sapphire, I'd simply buy the aluminum ones and be done with it. Couldn't agree with you more; being dismissive of people's concerns on whether a $1k luxury item actually has the thing that you're buying it for is asinine, and calling them idiots for it is straight-up rude.

I used to own an Aluminum Series 2 and the screen was pretty much flawless for 2 years, BUT i barely wore it because I had a daily mechanical watch.

When I switched over to a daily Apple Watch it was a no brainer to go for the Sapphire. the added cost is well worth the peace of mind.

I think the metal separation is all we need and every watch display should be sapphire.

I don’t see the big deal about sapphire. I’ve never had an issue with my Apple Watch screens and I’ve had Series 0, Series 2, Series 4, and soon a Nike Series 6. I was tempted to get a stainless model this time around but I’d rather spend the extra money on a watch I won’t be replacing in 2 years. (Next up is a Seamaster). My Omega Speedmaster has hesalite.

I don’t disagree with that, and I think what would help, is actually knowing what it would cost Apple to implement a sapphire display.

But here’s the thing, I don’t think consumers even know what sapphire is, let alone that it’s even included on the more Premium Models. So would it really make a difference to the average consumer that Apple includes sapphire or not? For us ‘techies’ on sites like this, we all know the differences, but for the majority, they don’t know and I don’t think they would care. That’s probably one the reasons why Apple doesn’t do that, and of course the cost consideration they want the Sapphire display to be more exclusive to those who spend the extra money.

The difference is that the sapphire crystal display on the pricier models is more durable and resistant to wear & tear.
The Ion-X glass used on the aluminium models is more likely to be damaged from impact or scratches.
Not true at all. Sapphire is more scratch resistant. When it comes to shattering your screen, ion-x is more durable.
