Confirming iPhone warranty

I'm selling my 4S on ebay and someone has asked for my IMEI or serial number so they can 'check the warranty on Apple's website'.

Is this possible? It sounds a little fishy to me.

Do not divulge your imei number in any format.

By inputting your Hardware serial number into apples website link one can see if the iPhone is legal and how long it's warranty is live for.
