Confused about corporate/enterprise

Do you need to go to AT&T just if you want a business plan, or do you need to go if you want to have your iPhone work with work?

I want to personally buy one, but then use my work's enterprise services.

So, does that mean I need a business account via AT&T or can I just go to Apple and get a regular one but still link in my services.

Lastly, why couldn't I just buy it at Apple, and then call to AT&T to switch plans?
