Confused about iCloud

Hello there...I was just wondering why I got a notification on my phone to backup to iCloud. I thought that everything syncs automatically and instantly? Why is a manual backup necessary? Or is automatic sync something that I need to specify in settings?

SYNC = synching media with the OPTION to also back up the OS. Apparently your OS is not being backed up (you have not selected a back up destination, iCloud or PC) and you are being admonished.

Go to:

- Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup

and turn iCloud Backup "On"

From there tap "Back Up Now"

And from that point forward you'll auto backup when your phone is plugged in, locked and connected to wi-fi.
