Confused, are AirPods 2 less waterproof?

I'm enjoying my new AirPods and was comfortable that most mentioned that they were somewhat resistant to water. Most of what I've read indicates that sweating is ok and wearing in rain is not. Now, watching tear down videos and water tests on YouTube the new AirPods appear to fail. 1st Gen AirPods appear to have fared better in the tests. One of the teardown videos showed that Apple put some kind of protection on the inside of the case but no proofing on the outside on G2. Anyone have opinions on this?

My opinion is this. Regardless of if you have 1st or 2nd gen AirPods, take Apple at their word and keep them away from water.

They're never water resistant nor water proof.
