Just ordered a 24" 3.06 GHz refurb from Apple with 4Gb RAM - £700 off. It clearly states on the product info page that it can take up to 8Gb RAM.

I visited Crucuial, and using their Memory Wizard thingy, selecting this machine it says that 4Gb is the limit.

Who's right? Also, not sure how many slots there are in this machine. If I want 8 Gb am I going to have to ditch the 2 x 2 Gb to buy 2 x 4Gb??

What refurb did you buy? 3.06GHz with GT130 (2009) or 3.06GHz with 8800GS (2008)? 2008 model can only support 6GB unofficially but 2009 supports 8GB.

If you really want 8GB, get the current iMac because it has 4 RAM slots so having 8GB will be A LOT cheaper because 4 x 2GB is ~150$ and 2 x 4GB is +500$

Not Sure,

Web Page (now expired of course!) definitely said upgradeable to 8Gb, all the info I can get from the order is:

RFB IMAC 24"/3.06/4GB/1TB/512/SD/MSE-GBR
FB420B/A

Does that tell an expert anything?

It's 2009 model so it does support 8GB. You maybe selected the wrong 3.06GHz iMac so it showed only 4GB but here is link for the right RAM
