I have just signed up to this service for the main reason to 'get' better bit rate songs that I already own and also to remove the protected acc to purchased acc files.

I am a little confused as how to go about this. I have had a look on several Apple support pages, but I am none the wiser.

I have 4255 songs in total, so not a big library and of those, 605 are protected ACC files.

What, how, where, when do I go this. Is there a 'idiots guide'?

Thank you (in advance)

Darren

After iTunes is finished matching all of your music files you then delete the ones you want to replace (lower bit rate/DRMed). You then just download them.

As always make sure you have a TM (or other) backup.

Thank you for the reply, but I am still not 100% on what I have to do, so...

1) When do I know when iTunes has finished matching?
- iTunes has gone through its three steps

2) How, where do I download the new songs?

1, that info is in the iTunes match tab

2, when you delete a song it'll ask if you want to delete the local copy or local and match copy select local. The some will be in your playlist but with a little cloud. Tap this and it'll download.

I too went through this process and deleted all of my songs locally. Is there a way to bulk download from Match or must I press each and every little cloud to restore my music locally?

But when you delete the local copy, I think it asks if you want to delete from the cloud too. Make sure you select "No" for this. Once you delete the hard copy and from the cloud, no more song.

When I delete a song I get this

Then I click 'Delete Song' and get this

Do I 'Keep File' or 'Move to Trash'
Once I have done that, the album is still there, but with a cloud symbol and I can download that from the cloud. So I think I am in business. Thank you for your help.

"Move to trash" moves your file(s) to the trash in the file system. "Keep file" removes it from iTunes, but retains it in the file system (Ie. the iTunes folders in Finder), which can result in a mess where you have files laying around that aren't used but take up space. I really don't see why they have that option?
