Guess ihad this all wrong a friend has had the ATT unlimited data since day one of ipad 1.

He had no issues when ipad 2 came out still has unlimited 3 g ATT data.

However he found out tonite you can not get att unlimited with LTE?(for new ipad)

There is no grandfather from his 3 g unlimited data plan to LTE.

He had to lose the unlimited plan since he did want att LTE.

Just wanted to check to be real sure no one has Unlimited ATT LTE?

    thanks

You just go into the settings of the new ipad (cellular data), log in and transfer the account over. Yes, unlimited LTE.

well first thinh did was call att when ipad arrived they told him oh just use your old 3 g ipad sim'

he did but no lte speed so i told him on lte that does need the new lte sim.

but again he called att they setup the lte simm on his account but made him leave unlimited saying no one gets unlimited lte no matter even though he had unlimited 3g.

my advice now no more calls go to a ATT store in person and hope they can see he did earlier today have unlimited data plan.

    what a mess

    thanks
    for the help

I can barely understand any of this. But all you had to do was sign into your data account on the new iPad and the option to transfer your unlimited plan over is there. No need to go into a store or call AT&T. I'm tired of people saying you need to contact AT&T to transfer your unlimited data plan.

We grandfathered all have unlimited LTE. Unfortunately your friend got bad advice and there's no getting the plan back once it's been removed.

    Sorry.

He needs to do the following:
    1. Switch SIMS back
    2. Go to the cellular account settings on his new iPad, and log in. It gives him the option to activate his existing plan onto the new iPad.

    Done.

Of course, if he already cancelled his old plan, he might be out of luck, and have to spend several hours of escalating phone support until someone gives him his plan back.

Not a loophole per se, but you can buy unlimited ATT iPad sim cards on eBay for a hefty price.. :(

Those won't work on the new iPad, at least not get you LTE. I'm thinking...

Ummmmm, I wouldn't consider an eBay auction a reliable source.

The new iPads have a new sim to support LTE. AT&T killed the unlimited plans a long time ago. I would be very hesitant to buy one of these and get nabbed by AT&T the minuted I tried to use it and get a nasty text/email. Im not sure I'd get my money back from the eBay seller...

Hopefully ATT brings shared data plans soon, and by shared I hope it will apply to NON family plans as well, as I don't have a family; I just want to share my data bucket across my devices.
