I went to 'About This Mac' and it says there are 770.38GB free 999.35GB.

it says there are around 70GB of Movies, and 65 of Photos.

I'm confused as there are NO movies or photos on this iMac. I have download Disk Inventory and it says my HD is only 29GB large so where are these photos and movies taking up so much room!

The "Storage" tab is notoriously inaccurate, particularly if you have Yosemite or El capitan.
If you want it to display something closer to reality, try rebuilding your spotlight database.
You will likely see some difference, at least for a few days, then it may be "out of touch" again.

I have Yosemite.

I just rebuilt my spotlight database but no change.

I am in the process of deleting a user account so perhaps I should try after that's completed.

Then, apparently you have some 70GB of files that your OS X system considers to be movies/video files.

Do you take a lot of time on Youtube, or some other video streaming site?
How large is your user folder/Caches folder?

No I don't have an iPad.

I can't have 70GB of files though. I bought this iMac a few days ago! did transfer my time machine back up to this one but deleted everything but music from it?

Download and run OmniDiskSweeper (its free) It will provide a sorted list of your files/folders and show you where all your space is going.
