My rig will be here tomorrow.

I think you just need to run one instance only and run "fah6 -smp 8 -bigadv". For 2009 Mac Pro use "-smp 15" instead of 8 and make sure HyperThreading is on (it is by default I think).

Make sure you accept big WU in the config (pretty sure you do already for SMP Folding), and you can delete the core to get the new 2.11 version (might do it by itself anyway).

I would not run it on the quad 2.66 but the other two should work, your PPD is going to skyrocket.

Last you need to activate the passkey, which you might already have (I did a long time ago somehow).

That's the thing that threw me, what's a passkey? If I have one, I don't remember what it is (been folding for 3+ years)

Thanx for the info... I might give it a whirl

dang, 4 mac pros! what else do you do with them? if you don't mind me asking

the 2x 2.26 dual quad core are print production machines (at work- CS3 & Quark)

the 1x 2.66 quad core is a future print production machine (currently in my office, but will be going to another office and won't be folding much longer)

the 2.8 dual quad core is my home machine which I use for print production & video encoding (DVD & BR conversion for my aTVs)

I haven't seen a "threat" in my rearview mirror since the beginning of the summer

well i've got a VM running ubuntu that i finally got working. we'll see how it goes.

haha, just give me a little over 8 years at this pace, and i'll catch you ;) but don't count on me keeping this pace. i will as long as i can though

Don't worry about catching me (just keep at it) ;)

You'll be top ten in no time :D

Mac Pro came yesterday, worked all night to configure the RAID, installed SL this am, hopefully will start crunching tonight, and hopefully will get a big unit right away...

You also need to replace the fah6 executable file by this one
http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/folding/osx/fah6
you need to download it by right clicking and change the name to fah6, you also might make the file executable (I didn't have to).

43 mins for the first frame, I was expecting 40 mins or better so not great...
Still, 3 days turn-around, should be 16.5k PPD with the 100% bonus, 20k total PPD with the other computers, enough to claim the #1 cruncher spot until Lyzardking turn on the big guns.

nice. i'm having connection issues right now, so my numbers might drop a little

Looks like once some file transfers were done it dropped to 41.5 mins, so under 3 days... We shall see. First unit will be done Sunday night.

nice. i'm still having connection issues. hopefully they won't stay like this for long though. i might have to get a new router soon

First bigadv unit is done. 41.5 mins per frame, 2.05 faster than deadline resulted in 51.6k points thus 17.6k PPD. Not bad eh...

It looks like the Harpertown and Nehalem can do better per Ghz...

Almost 3 days to complete? (if my math is right)

I might have to try this out.....

Question: You had a past problem with a unit not restarting, right? I fear that's why I loose a unit every so often (not being taken down "nicely")
