They look like awesome machines if you are going to be using macOS ONLY. After watching Unleashed, I am super happy with my decision to go 2019 Macbook Pro 16. Gaming not even mentioned.

I feel similarly, but honestly, as fast as those things are I have to wonder if a game running in Windows for ARM in Parallels might still be roughly as fast as the 16" with it's anemic GPUs.

yes, thats why I am going to just wait and watch for a couple of years..

It actually feels like the early 1990s now.. I can have the most powerful video, graphics machine with my Commodore Amiga, but I am forced to watch my friends play Aces of the Pacific, Wing Commander, and the Ultimas on their DOS PCs..

I want both in one machine. :D

I have my desktop with a 3080 for PC gaming.

This new macbook pro with 120hz, mini led, battery life, speakers, impedence headphones (no need for a dac), performance, thermals, keyboard, 64 gb unified memory, PORTS !!! there is just nothing like it. Apple finally listened to us.

Will be interesting to see gaming performance once these get into reviewers/users hands. I was hoping that the introduction today of the pro-level Apple Silicon chips would come with some sort of partnership announcement or commitment from a major game publisher. Wishful thinking I suppose.

It’s all quite relative depending on the games folks play. For me, 32-bit hardware/software compatibility via CrossOver is necessary for Valve Source engine games like Team Fortress 2. While for the time being, Rockstar FPS like GTA V and RDR2 require Windows/Bootcamp.

In those cases, the previous gen MBP 16” with Radeon 5600M might have been the peak of what I was looking for in a single machine.

Overall I’m not sure what I was expecting, just curious to see how this plays out.

Windows on ARM falls on Microsoft to deliver. So far they have advised no plans. Only hope for windows VM on M-series Macs are is through Parallels.
Windows is blazing fast in Parallels and it's being emulated. I don't know why Microsoft doesn't want my money, cuz I'd buy another copy if they released Mac support. :(

Unfortunately the market for Mac owners who would buy Arm Windows is probably tiny, so I don't think Microsoft will support it, maybe in several years but not now for sure. Which leaves those who want to play Windows games on Arm Macs in somewhat of a quandary, because you don't know how long you'll be able to do so, and you need to be on Microsoft's insider programme to do it.
It didn't look too promising when the new iMac was said to struggle with StarCraft 2, a game I would play, in Parallels, I'd imagine the new MacBook Pro's will be better?

Gaming in Parallels is pretty atrocious. I'm assuming the new ones will be better, but it's still going to suck.

Only game I play on Mac is football manager, and pretty sure today’s purchase (which was bought for work purposes) will smash the back doors off it.

We will have to wait and see, but it will still be an issue emulating an app emulating Windows emulating X86 games and probably more emulation on top of that. It leaves second hand Macs or trying to get an EGPU to run in Parallels, probably will be a nightmare, or a Mac Pro. They seem to have some inconsistent performance too on M1 Macs.

I'm looking forward to play Dota 2. Already runs well on M1.
What do you think it could achieve on dota 2?

I need this for work, my biggest issue is Avid Media Composer one day working on an M1 chip, its been 1 year with nothing while every other video editing program has worked. So for now I will keep my 2017 imac for when that work comes around. Otherwise the only games I play on my mac now are league and PoE. They should run just fine I assume

assuming their is no Parallels bottleneck, the games that run on the M1 will probably perform better on the pro and max. However, there are LOTS of games that do not run at all on Parallels in the M1 and I doubt they are going to work on the new ones.

I perservered for nearly a year to get good gaming on the M1 and it always felt lacking. I will run a macOS VM in a gaming pc before I give up Windows gaming again.. no matter how fast the M1 Max runs omnifocus and fantastical..

Personally, I would not own a computer I could not play Planet Zoo on. :D

So it's a Windows machine too, or a second hand Mac or new iMac 26" or Mac Pro. I guess other option is something like the Steam Deck and a
Mac?
