So it's a Windows machine too, or a second hand Mac or new iMac 26" or Mac Pro. I guess other option is something like the Steam Deck and a
Mac?

I am only speaking notebooks. I have a gaming PC but it does not get used since I got my iMac 2020. Two computers at home is quite doable. However, I travel a lot for work and carrying two notebooks would suck. I am sooooooo happy I grabbed a new mbp16 last month with apple care. So I have plenty of time to just watch how things unfold with the new ones.

The fact that a trillion dollar company could not throw some $$$ at a marquis game publisher for some juicy announcement is weird. There are probably a lot more gamers than video artists and editors..

I rarely play games on Macs but Disco Elysium was just patched to run natively on M1 so... I know what I'm going to play on the road.

They look like awesome machines if you are going to be using macOS ONLY. After watching Unleashed, I am super happy with my decision to go 2019 Macbook Pro 16. Gaming not even mentioned.

Huh? At 28min25sec they have a game developer talking about how they'll be able to make bigger and better games while game characters are animated on the screen.

Well, if you plan to use a computer for gaming, the Mac is still a poor option.

Most games run on Windows, which is not officially supported on M-series processors.

Plus, even on Apple's charts, the GPU on the powerful M1 Max is no match for the top mobile GPU on PC laptops (they are roughly in the same ballpark, but Apple's charts show the PC GPUs as being noticeable above).

So, yes, the new MacBook Pros are great as they bring top-notch CPU and GPU performance to this form factor. But there are better options for delivering better GPU performance if you do not care about size, weight, battery life, heat, and/or price.

an iOS game developer.. I was speaking of AAA games.. I have no doubt that the M1 Max will be flooded with phone games...

Well I think your title should have been "Congrats to the non-triple-AAA-mobile-PC-gamers on your new Macbook Pros", but then that would not have made as much impact. I have a PS5 to play AAA games. I also have a switch to play mobile games as well.

Unfortunately the market for Mac owners who would buy Arm Windows is probably tiny, so I don't think Microsoft will support it, maybe in several years but not now for sure. Which leaves those who want to play Windows games on Arm Macs in somewhat of a quandary, because you don't know how long you'll be able to do so, and you need to be on Microsoft's insider programme to do it.
It didn't look too promising when the new iMac was said to struggle with StarCraft 2, a game I would play, in Parallels, I'd imagine the new MacBook Pro's will be better?
I hope Apple negotiates and asks Microsoft to do ARM Windows better and with Mac support. When they had Jobs, he was able to get Microsoft to make all sorts of software like Office for Mac. Boot camp also would not have been possible without a little help from Microsoft. Microsoft didn’t sue Apple to prevent boot camp so they aren’t anti Windows on Mac.

I notice "AAA" and "switch" were not in the same sentence. so you really have nothing more than phone games when you are mobile. :D

Microsoft have already stated they won't support the Arm Mac. So any ideas of official support coming is just wish full thinking I'm afraid. Jobs certainly did a better job with getting Microsoft's support.

Doesn’t mean it won’t happen lol 😂 Microsoft eventually will.

In the near future, the most likely winning strategy will be using a good pc gaming notebook and keeping macOS in a VM on it or sliding an M1 Air into your laptop pocket next to your pc gaming notebook. I feel like I am at the end of Revenge of the Sith right now.. will go into hiding and enjoy my Macbook Pro i9 until the time is right to make a move.

League of Legends, Factorio, Starcraft 2, WoW, Warcraft 3, Tomb Raider, Terraria, Stardew Valley. These are games I play on the mac. People keep posting the same thing over and over and over and over again and its really old. Think of Windows as PS5 and Mac as Xbox. Can you play Horizon Zero Dawn on Xbox? How about Spider-Man? God of War? Okay, so Windows has exclusives that Mac doesn't. Its the same as consoles. Quite a few popular games DO get ported though (I have listed several, I know some that play Civ games too).

The only things really old are the games in that list.. I overlooked the first one at 2009, but I stopped reading your list when you dipped all the way back to 2002 and 2004. I do play Planet Coaster on my Mac, but for the other stuff, boot camping into Windows is needed. Planet Zoo, Red Dead Redemption 2, Sea of Thieves, etc.

Think of Windows as PS5 and Mac as Xbox.

in that analogy, the Mac would be a Switch.. barely...

No they won't, why would they waste mo et and resources for a market that's in single digits and has been for years and years? I'm afraid your just dreaming if you believe they'll change their minds in this.

Yeap. Apples Arm Macs have meant the best solution now is two computers if you need Windows. I'm now looking into that, it's either this or an old or second hand Intel Mac, or a Mac Pro costing thousands. The new Surface Laptop Studio is growing on me and should handle my needs. And then get a Mac.
