No need to feel bad. I think it's great that we've got people dedicated to the project and giving it their best shot, regardless of folding power. :)

I agree. Until a month ago or so, I relied on my computers at home and some of my friends. I kept plugin' away until I was able to get my mits on a massive quatity of computers. You never know when you will get your hands on hundreds of computers. I never thought I would have the chance to contribute like this. I'm just glad to help out any way I can.

I started folding 2 weeks ago for team Macrumors. at first I wasnt leaving my computers on overnight, but now... its full speed ahead 24/7.

So far I have 37wu's done and 3 more coming that are more than 50% done.

I'm boldimpact on the list #368 and climbing...
W00T! go macrumors!

Wow. Sure is quiet around these parts. Maybe we should pause Folding for a little while so you can pass us, and then we can start the battle anew. :p Nope! Warp speed ahead! Engage!

*YAWN* I grow tired of your idle threats. Either go or get off the toilet! Better bring more than a can my friend! I'm waiting. And waiting. And waiting. :) Still waiting! I'll be ready, any time now!

Well, let's have a little math review. Are you aware of the term "exponential growth"? How about "constant growth"? Let's look at some examples.

Here is my folding graph:
me1.jpg

Here is yours:
you1.jpg

You will notice that your line is straight. This is what we refer to as "constant growth". This means that you will keep moving forward at a high rate, but at one which remains constant. You should now take notice of my graph. It curves upward. This is what is known as "exponential growth". This means that my daily rate will keep moving forward at a high rate, but keep getting higher every day. If my rate continues to grow every day at the current exponent, I should be folding at about 25000 a day after one month. I already fold about as much as you do in a day, and I haven't even gotten started yet!

I just thought I should add these as visual aids.

My last weeks growth:

Your last weeks constant:

Yep. What two letters stand out most in that quote? I and F. Put 'em both together and they spell IF! :p

PS - I didn't know you cared! I'm touched! Ohhh, look at the pretty pictures! :) It's a Hallmark moment!

Well I guess all we can do is wait and see now. It will be fun.

jethroted,

haha ur exponential comparison was hilarious :)

u seem headed for the top 20 for overall folding users :D

keep up the awesome production. remeber the key is not quantitiy of computers, but if you can keep them on 24/7

but if you can keep them on 24/7

There are those two pesky letters again! Funny how those sneak up on you! And now we can add a 'seem' with a 'but'. I don't know? I'm not sensing much confidence in your newly attained powah! Let me know when you are VISIBLE in the rearview mirror. :p Fold on, if you can!

The other day there was a post on how much machines we would need to kick Team os X but and become the number one Mac team again. The guy who posted this said that he had a lot of 2.6 ghz procs (or that was his idea, or something). Well under the shower it hit me, or I started thinking about it again:

One 2.6 machine does 100 points per day, maybe a bit more. Team os X is outproducing us by about 50.000-28.000= 22.000 points per day. Therefore, it is save to say that we need at least 22.000/100= 220 machines! So, the conclusion is: Who has a good lab or a couple of classrooms with fast computers? :D

Well... I was the one who asked...

I could get my hands on a bunch of machines which I THINK run at 2.6 ghz, but it wouldn't be for a few weeks, and it might take some negotiation with the owner.

edit:

It wouldn't be 220 machines....

I'm working on it. I still have many machines at my disposal. My only hurdle is the department people need to let me in. One by one they are surendering their machines to me. :D

Team Os X here we come! :D BTW, you do have so many machines? Also tried doing this at work, but can't seem to get through the firewall. Proxy and port are good, but it can't connect to the outside world. Even had the IT department looking for it. But after a few days they said that they didn't want to put any more time in it because it was a program that they didn't support.... And we are a researchcompany, also part in medical, go figure...

We had some proxy troubles too. I can't remember how we got around them though. I know that the proxy options in the folding app did nothing to get through it. I think as long as you are a domain user that has access through port 80 then you should be able to run folding and get through the proxy.

port 80... will give it a try tomorrow! Well, the FAH app normally uses port 8080, which is the same with our firewall. So after installing the app and setting everything up, including the proxy and the port, it still couldn't connect to the outside world. Our firewall is blocking it for some reason, and according to our IT department it shouldn't be doing that. They think it has something to do with the standard port folding uses, which is the same port we use. Does this make sense?

Rower, could you rename this thread to: Our strategy on how to overtake Team Os X, or something!

I think that you need to use the "-local" tag... but I'm not sure. If you don't, then I am really confused as to what it does.

Could you explain that a bit more? Where do I put the -local tag? My work pc is a 2,0 P4 running the console version (if it ever runs).

ah... ok...

You would make a .bat file and put it in the working directory of F@H. Then add it to the startup items.

sample:

Code:
@echo off

set FAHPROGRAM="C:\Documents and Settings\User_Name\Desktop\FAH4Console.exe"

@echo on

%FAHPROGRAM% -advmethods -verbosity 9

pause

Basically, this tells the computer to run F@H from the specified directory (change it to match your directory (where the F@H executable is)). It then tells it to run using the "-advmethods" and the "verbosity 9" tags. You would just put "-local" there.

Keep in mind, you will need to change the directories.

To use this, paste it into a .txt file and save it. Then rename the file "name.bat" where name is whatever you named it.

Is that clear?

edit:

There are other ways to do this, that is just the way I use.

If you are running F@H as a service, I need to know what program you used to make it run as a service first.

Jethroted

You output is simply amazing! I checked the stats and it says 9 active processors , what in the heck are they? Man if our team had a bunch more of those Team Mac OS X Rumors would rock!

Keep up the good work!

:D I think that the 9 processors has something to do with being behind government security... all of the computers there probably get registered as one. The other problem could be with the way that F@H is being installed, where it is not giving each machine a valid machine ID because the configuration file is just being pasted over and over again on new machines..... just my guess...

Yeah, it is clear, only it still doesn't work. Got your code working! see the pic here under. The second one is the normal FAHconsole version working and not getting through the firewall.
