The controller doesn't show up as PS3 Controller in my devices list ever. Just some cryptic hexadecimal numbers flagged with 'not connected'.

Here is a log from when I
  • turned on BT
  • connected the controller via usb
  • disconnected the controller from usb
  • pressed the ps button (at that point the 'enter passcode for ps3 controller'-window comes up, but nothing ever happens thereafter)
http://pastebin.com/dcJKDXbT

The controller just stops blinking after some time and is still not connected / paired.

I've made sure there are no other interfering BT devices, and I use Mavericks 10.9.2.

Has anyone any idea on why this doesn't work? Or some further ideas on how to debug this problem?

Ps. I'm new to this forum and wasn't exactly sure if this is the right subforum :<

try pressing the private student button before you disconnect the usb. Also make sure your ps3 is turned off (not even the red light on... like unplugged) as I have had trouble connecting mine before because it would just try to turn on the ps3

Hey everfangomanga, thank you for the suggestion!
However, I don't even have a real Playstation at all. The only Bluetooth device in the vicinity is my MBP. I even turned off my mobile phones and desktop PC for the sake of being sure the controller doesn't try to pair with anything else.

I tried everything with the USB cord, too:
Pressing the button
  • WHILE disconnecting
  • BEFORE and AFTER disconnecting
  • only AFTER disconnecting
the cable, still to no avail :/

This is what I've always used to connect a DualShock 3 to my Macs:

Use a PS3 Controller on your Mac

Thanks for the link! I tried to do it this way, too, but unfortunately my Bluetooth preferences don't expose a 'gear' symbol or any other means of adding the PS3 controller to favorites. The window doesn't resemble the one in the article at all!
When I do it like in the article without adding the controller to favorites, but turning BT off right after entering the passcode, it will simply ask for the passcode again after I turn BT on again.

How can I favorite a BT device with the new BT preferences window?
