I'm having trouble connecting my external hardrive to my network. Here are the details:

1. I have a Macbook 5.1 and am running OS 10.6.8
2. The external hardrive is a WD 300 Gig hardrive that my Macbook recognizes when connected through an external hub.
3. My router is an Airport Extreme version 7.5.2
4. I have connected my external hardrive to the Airport Extreme via usb hub but it is not recognized.
5. I use a smaller Lacie hardrive as my time machine backup and when I connect this to the network via Airport Extreme USB my Macbook recognizes the Lacie.
6. I also use an Airport Express v 6.3 as a receiver for my stereo.
7. The Airport Extreme and Express get along just fine.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

What format is the WD drive in?

Have you tried connecting it directly to the AEBS without a hub in between?

In re to format,

1. I don't know. How do I determine that?

2. My Macbook reads the HD through the hub. Can formatting affect whether it reads wirelessly?

And yes, I've connected it directly to the AEBS but still no go.
