Hi, I am trying to connect my iPhone and MacBook via direct wifi, and not through a wireless router.

I've tried creating a network on my MacBook, giving it a name and password which seems to create the network, however when I go into Wireless Networks on my iPhone, it does not show.

Can anyone suggest what could be wrong... thanks in advance for your help

It maybe as simple as, it doesn't allow such connection method.

This is traditionally called ad-hoc networking (or peer-to-peer), and while the Macbook may have something like it, keeping with legacy settings, I do not believe IOS (a more recent OS) has such facility.

Is almost like asking how to do dial-up these days! 😉

Hi 007, how did you get it working? I'm trying to achieve the same thing... connecting a 2015 iMac/El Cap with an android phone running under KitKat
