Connect macbook to tv

I have the cords all connected from my macbook to my tv and all i can see is my desktop wallpaper on the tv....no icons nothing, can anyone help me???

turn on mirroring.

Go in to Displays and you need to check the box Mirror Displays. 😎

Thats the extended desktop type mode try dragging a window across! otherwise do what the others have kindly suggested above.

I don't see an option to Mirror Display under Displays. Am I missing something?

The only options I have under Displays is Display/Color. Does the TV need to be hooked up to get the other options?

Yes, connect your display then mess with the options, there will be mirroring and other new options to trick it.
