Connect Netgear EX3700 AC Extender

I have an Airport Extreme ac router and I am trying to use a Netgear EX3700 AC Extender instead of an Apple Express which only supports "N". Has anyone been able to incorporate the Netgear into their network?

To be clear, you will lose half your throughout if you extend wirelessly.

If you wire your Express to your Extreme, you will get full throughout and your Extreme's Wi-Fi will be at ac speed, and it will also provide improved speed to your n devices (presumably including the Express).
