What is the best/easiest way to connect a 2TB Time Machine to an Optimum (cable company) Smart Router?

Run an ethernet cable from a LAN port on the Optimum device to the WAN port (the one closest to the power cable) on the Time Capsule. Then use Airport Utility to put the Time Capsule in "bridge mode". Then use the Time Capsule for all your wired and wireless connections.

Once this is setup you will probably need to unplug the Optimum device then power it back up so it recognizes the Time Capsule.

Thank you. Would the Time Capsule give me better speed/connection/range than the Optimum router? Or probably about the same?

The wired would be the same, but if you have the newer TC with AC wireless and some newer AC wireless client devices, then that should be better with wifi speeds that then Optimum router.
