I don't have any idea how this would be possible, or even if it would be, but perhaps with an app such as Airfoil? Streaming audio from the iPhone (and maybe eventually iPod touch) to Airport express speakers?

Or has this already been discussed and I missed it?

Totally possible. iPhone has wifi. Send the MP3/ACC data to the airport express.

It would be great if a developer was interesed in making this happen. It would be even better if apple would make it happen

Agreed on both accounts. I wish I knew where to begin. Maybe it is something that will be easier to implement with the introduction of iTunes wifi.

Could one not simply add Airfoil and create a link to it from the Audio Output menu?

(Hint: The one that gives Speakers, Headset, Headphones, iPhone)
