hi guys, i have mac mini and using wired (ethernet) connection only.
every time i start the computer i always have to connect manually on drop down on the upper menu.

is there configuration that will automatically connect to internet?

the real problem is the updating of the OS. during updating it will be required to restart but i think it has to stay connected when it start up so to continue the install update. i once sent this mac to apple centre because of (i think) interrupted installing/updating to mavericks. i lost every data coz they restored the mac to factory settings.

now yet again there's an Os update and i keep on cancelling because of losing connection in the process. but i might be wrong— is the updating dependent on internet connection? is the update sent as a dmg file somewhere in the hard rive then i just install it myself ..help.

What router and modem are you using? What is your ISP? And what kind of internet service do you have?

Open Network Preferences and click on the ethernet connection, you should see down the bottom right an "Advanced" tab.

In the PPP tab you can set the connection never to disconnect & connect automatically when needed.
