    Can anyone tell me how I can and where to plug my Creative InSpire 5.1 Digital 5700 speaker system to my 24" AL iMac?

    Run a digital optical TOSLINK cable from the iMac's "headphone" output
    combo-jack to the speaker system's "optical" input. You'll need a cable
    with a 3.5 mm mini-TOSLINK connector on the iMac end and a standard
    TOSLINK connector on the speaker end. Something like this:

    I was wondering if these were compatible with the iMac. The iMac has a 3.5 mm jack on it, and from the product description it says it's a 5 mm plug, yet the description also makes mention of being used for Apple laptops. I would be quite surprised if monoprice didn't carry a cable for this use - seeing as they have every type of cable and adapter known to man.

    Does anyone know if the type linked can indeed fit in the iMac optical jack?

    Yes, the 3.5 mm mini-Toslink end is compatible with iMac;
    the other end is a 'normal' Toslink plug of the type used in
    most full-size audio gear.
