    Hello:

Just got a new Macbook pro with Mountain Lion. My monitor is a Samsung with DVI connection. To connect the MB to the monitor I bought a DVI-HDMI converter since the MBP has a HDMI port. When I plug in the converter to the MBP clearly the laptop and the monitor know something is going on--the MBP screen flickers and the Samsung monitor's "screensaver" goes off. But I just get a black screen on the Samsung monitor. The light on the Samsung flashes indicating there is no connection present. If I go to Preferences/Display on the MBP I don't get any "arrangement" tab or an sign it recognizes the external monitor.

Any idea how to get this to work? I would say the converter doesn't work but it seems the monitor did recognize something at first.

    Thanks,

What exact HDMI > DVI adapter do you use? Have you tried an MDP > DVI adapter yet?

Oh, I thought it was HDMI--HDMI fits, so I thought it was good. Should have checked before. I'll get a different adapter then.
