Hello,

My first post, please be gentle!

Slight problemo: been trying to connect my iMac and Macbook with ethernet to transfer some files. I've done it before, so that is not the problem.

The problem is after "connect as" when i need to enter my name and password. I simply cant remember, it was ages ago and i obviously thought it was so simple it didnt need to be written down - big mistake!

Can i recover these details or start from scratch? Either is fine.

many thanks,

Roger

so you cannot remember the user name or password for the macbook?
if you insert the install DVD that came with the computer
shut down the computer
right after the chime press the C key and hold it
after it boots up you can go to utilities on the top bar and then reset password

hope that helps

Go into your MacBook and open System Preferences / Accounts, you can then see the account name, typically first and last name without spacing.

Many thanks guys for your quick responses - impressive! :)

I was aware of the reset password trick, but just thought it applied to logins only for some reason.

I can now connect to the macbook although changing passwords seemed to create havoc with my keychains.

Before when i connected the imac and macbook the password i entered was different from the macbook login. Why can't i have a different password to login to my macbook and another when i connect the imac to it like before?

This is more of an irritant than real problem, but i'd just like to know why things changed.
