I am wondering what device would I need to connect my MBPr to the TV through the HDMI? I believe I need some sort of firewire adapter don't I? Basically when I plug the hdmi into my MBPr nothing happens nothing plays.

I'm simply looking to sync my mbpr to the tv so I can stream things.

Thanks.

If you want to connect it, just use an HDMI cable. You need to select the right input on your TV

It's possible that your HDMI port is bad? Your rMBP doesn't have FireWire, so that's out. You might be able to find a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.

With an AppleTV you could do that with AirPlay, wireless.

You've definitely got an issue somewhere. Bad port, cable, or wrong input.

What do you see in System Info under Graphics/Displays?
HDMI-connected display shall show up there.
PS If your rMBP has dual GPU, you need to make sure you are running either default autoswitching mode or the dGPU (nVidia). Integrated one is not connected to HDMI at all. If you have installed the gfxCardStatus and switched permanently to iGPU, then this will also result in no picture via HDMI.

Might seem stupid, but I'll say it anyway. Is your TV turned on and is the input selected the one your MBP is connected to?
