Connecting remote control to a Mac mini help please.

Hello all, I am trying to connect an Apple Remote from an older iMac to use with a 2020 M1 Mini. I have not been able to do it and don't know if it is possible. What I am hoping to do is to be able to control the volume of the mini using it. Thank you for any thoughts/help/comments.

The 2018 and newer minis don't support that remote. You won't be able to use it.
