In situations where you don't have access to wireless networks but there is an ethernet connector for Internet access, is it somehow possible to use an adapter of some sort which connects to the iPod Touch?

I know I could buy a wireless router to create a wireless network, or (as previous threads have already pointed out) bring along a laptop and "relay" the wireless signal to the iPod Touch, but the former means lugging along more gear (I love the fact that this tiny iPod Touch can be used to surf the net, so this goes against that, the same with bringing a laptop along as the whole point with the iPod is that I don't need to drag a huge laptop along when travelling).
If only there was a tiny adapter cable or something I would still have a space-saving Internet accessing computer for any type of connection...

This might conflict with wanting to avoid lugging something around but I've had a Cisco-Linksys WTR54GS Wireless G Travel Router for several years. Bit it is rather compact. Specs: 3 x 2 x 5 inches, 7 ounces. Not even sure where you could get this specific portable router but it might provide you with a starting point.
