Yes, you can buy a cable with USB-c on one end, and USB-a on the other, and use it with the MBP.

Should be no issues at all.
 
The USB-C enclosures I have purchased have come with both cables (-A and -C), so no additional cable purchase necessary.

As mentioned, there are many USB-C cables available to convert existing enclosures if you are careful about which connector style is on your enclosure.
