Connecting watch to Mini Cooper

Does anyone know if you can connect a cellular Apple Watch to a Mini Cooper over Bluetooth?
I got in my car the other day without my phone. Tried to connect both as a phone and as A media player but couldn’t connect. I have a 2018 Cooper with Nav Pack.

I tried to connect an Apple Watch to my Ford Focus sync 3. No joy, i get to the point where I have to confirm the number on the watch and the number on the vehicle screen are the same, then it just sits there waiting for the watch to respond, but it never does. The iPhone pairs perfectly.

I’ve heard that certain cars simply can’t pair properly to the watch.

Thanks for replies. I’ll try not to forget phone, CarPlay is the only part of the radio that it easy to use.
