iPhone Connection iphone to laptop??

Is there an idiot guide to connecting the iphone to my laptop as the one im following on youtube doesnt seem to work. Ive followed step by step but when I enter my ip address the black box comes up but its blank. Its then followed by an error.

There have to be literally hundreds of how-to's to discover using Google.
Take your pick of USB, Bluetooth or WiFi connection.

I'm looking to either way of wi-fi or USB. Can you direct me to an easy to follow instruction video if possibleI'm wanting to view my iphone screen on my laptop, is this tehering?, thanks

no its not, what I use is a program on my mac called AirServer
