Connection to 2K monitor

Just waiting on the arrival of a 2020 MBA. I.plan to connect it up to a 2K monitor which has a HDMI connector.

Could someone confirm if a normal USB C to HDMI lead would work or am I required to buy an official apple lead/adapter to do this?

I’ve had success with a third party hub so I’d say there’s no requirement for. Apple branded

Any cheap USB C to HDMI will work. The problem is when you're trying to do 4K at 60hz or above. Then the field of acceptable adapter narrows quite a bit
