I think denver counts as southern latitude. Maybe in the mountains but the city is pretty temperate all year isn’t it?

Is a $150 Brooks Brother’s dress shirt a status symbol since a JC Penny’s dress shirt runs at $9.74 - $14.99?

They both perform the same function.

Yeah, you do need to pay for something that will have very good insulating properties, but imo, Canada Goose seems to have crossed over and is now a status symbol. I'm not saying their coats won't keep you warm, but you can save yourself 700 (or so) dollars, it just won't have that fancy patch that people strive for.

Yeah the Canada goose jackets don't seem very good. You're better off with a legit Goretex shell and a mid layer.

To answer your rhetorical question, no. Mainly because, unless you're a goofball and buy a **** with the logo on it, nobody will know what brand of shirt your'e wearing.

Canada Goose lost its durability years ago. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole now. Arcteryx or Carhart would be my recommendations. Very expensive, but they last with care, IMO. Columbia and this other brand that sounds like taragon are good, too.

I'd say a decent dress shirt should start at around $35-50. Anything past $100 and it had better be made of pure silk or something equally expensive and fine, like cashmere and the finest cotton on the planet.

Also, Brooks Brothers today is not the Brooks Brothers you and I wore in our youth. It's cheapened out over time and just isn't as good as it was then. The only thing that's improved with time in our lives is beer and cars. Which is a win for me, personally.

I think I agree. It wasn’t rhetorical though. Functionality is the issue, as I read @maflynn. I’m just struggling understand his reasoning.

It may work if you layer up. Which is something us older folks were told when we were younger. But advances in materials science and research on internal layer structure have largely deemed that useless.

I'd look into what NatGeo reporters or scientists in colder climates wear and go from there.

Agree with the Arcteryx recommendation - I was getting at that but didn’t want to say outright. Also worth mentioning that even if Canada Goose jackets are legit down feather jackets, you don’t necessarily want a down feather jacket.

I have Brooks Brothera dress shirts I’m quite pleased with, but I wait until they go on sale and get them for like $70 each.

city of Denver is at 5K elevation and is a highland desert environment so typically there is a 30 degree dif between sunrise (coldest) and 3pm temps. Also the denver temperatures and snow fall have moderated significantly last 5 years. It feels like it any ways. Still winter is very cold here.
