After a couple of days with my iPhone 12 Pro, I am strongly considering returning it and ordering the 12 Pro Max. Anyone else on this boat?

I'm not a fan of huge phones, the 12 Pro Max would be the first ever phone of that size for me. I've always had the normal size phones (iPhone 5/6S/X and last year downgraded to iPhone 11 after my phone was lost). However, this year it seems like the sensor in the 12 Pro and larger battery, and $100 price difference may be worth it considering that the 5G modem uses much more energy than in past phones.

Some of my friends are happy with their Max sized phones but also they are female and they put their phones on their purse. I always keep my phones in the car's cupholder, in my front pockets on jeans and shorts. The size of the 12 Pro max and the weight of it is the only thing I am not fully sure about if it will be a good fit.

I've had XS Max and 11 Pro max and while I do like the size. I think for me the 6.1 is a sweet spot. Just wished it had bigger bettary capacity than 2815 mAh. I'm still going to pre-order the 12 Pro max and decide there.

After 2 days using the 12 Pro with 5G "Auto mode on" (coming from iPhone 11) the battery life on the 12 Pro is definitely less than my 11. It is noticeable for me.

The new 5G radios really suck the battery out of this thing (11 and 12 Pro have same battery mah size IIRC). Since I now notice the battery % is dropping faster is also why I think it may be the first time to go Max - so my phone is actually an upgrade in terms of longevity on the go.

I'm also annoyed about this lens flare thing the 12 Pro shows in night shots for some reason.

Battery life for me isn't an issue TBH. I don't have 5G in my area yet so I only have LTE.

I went through exactly the same thing last year. I bought an 11 Pro because I thought I could never handle a phone as big as the Max but luckily for me the screen on my launch-day Pro died after a couple of days and I thought “I should at least try a Max” so instead of getting a straight replacement I did an upgrade and I am so, so happy that I did.

I also carry my phone in my front trouser pocket, it’s the only way I every carry it when out, and I find neither the size nor the weight a problem. In fact perversely the bigger size is an advantage because my narrower Pro tended to tip over in my pocket and get it self wedged diagonally across the pocket whereas the extra width on the Max means it stays upright in my pocket.

I do have one advantage though that you might not have and that is that I‘m 5’8” (male) and have really tiny hands. My small hands was the final thing that pushed me to try the Max. Confused? Well, it was when I realised that my hands are so small that I already had to use my 11 Pro 2-handed anyway so if I was doing that already would I really notice any difference having to use 2 hands on a Pro Max? It turns out the answer was a definite no, I don’t notice any difference. I still hold it one-handed if I don’t need to interact with the screen, e.g. phone calls and ebook reading (I can still turn the pages 1-handed with my thumb) and that’s good enough for me.

You can probably guess which way I voted on your poll - trade up to the Pro Max.

I'm 100% on the Plus/Max train, and have been since the first one. No, it's not for everyone, but those of us who love the bigger sized phone REALLY love the bigger sized phone. Thing is, it takes 3-4 days before it stops feeling like a "big phone" and just starts feeling like your phone. Most people give up before that point when switching.

The 12 Pro Max is definitely the one to get in this generation, it has the better camera of the bunch and will probably have the best battery life to.

I've had the 12 Pro for a week and while it's more manageable and much lighter, the bigger screen real estate and longer battery life of the Pro Max are too good to pass up.

I've packed my 12 Pro up and will return it next week.

I'm submitting my return next Thursday so I'll have the 12 Pro until I'm able to get the 12 Pro Max. Hopefully I don't oversleep and miss the 13-Nov delivery date.

I bought the 12 coming from an 11 Pro Max. I miss the size and the battery life. I am planning on returning the 12 and getting the PM next Friday for preorder. I really wanted to love this 12 as the closeness in features to the Pro made it a great deal but the size and battery life are my ultimate hang ups!

I am shocked that I didn’t do this same thing. Usually I would. The appeal of the smaller phone, even the mini, is real. At the end of the day people will come back to the big phones. The screen real estate and battery make up for any inconveniences.

11PM here. Ready for 12PM. Slight tiny bigger difference. I know I’ll be fine. Already have spigen case for it. No bigger difference over 11PM. I’ll be just fine. Can’t wait.

the 12 pro battery does drop very fast compared to my 11 pro max. I use an Apple Watch and AirPods daily.
Despite liking the smaller size, I think I have to get the pro max. ;-/

I am also going to return the pro & go to Max. But then how can anyone be sure with the bigger batt, it going to last longer? I mean the max screen is big and it will use up more juice, which in turn may same usage time to pro?
It will likely be somewhat similar if not a bit better. It all depends on what you do on your phone.

I’m also starting to have doubts. I already ordered a 12 Pro but the delivery is scheduled for Nov 19 so I don’t know..

That sensor shift OIS sure sounds appealing and maybe worth it since I shoot a lot of video but other than that, having that big of a phone in my pocket might be an inconvenience. I had a 7 Plus in the past and it was okay I guess.

Still, I don’t know if I should cancel my order and wait for the Max or not.

Unfortunately it is very hard to give you an answer as everyone is different, I have friends in both camps that prefer the smaller phones and then ones that like the larger phones. Best bet would be hopefully you have a friend or someone you know that has either an Xs Max or 11 Pro Max and maybe use it for a bit and see how you like it.

For example one of my friends said the Max wont fit in his jeans pockets so right away it eliminated that possibility for him 😂

I went with the 12Pro thinking it would be fine from 11PM .... but sadly I really miss the screen size ...... I’ve been constantly using both at home side by side and my preference is with the 11PM size. The battery doesn’t bother me as I am rarely far from a charger and if i travel I take a power pack. The other thing I’m struggling with a little is the slight difference in keyboard size. I’ll be pre ordering a blue 512 next week. :)

Fitting in the pockets is definitely a pressing issue since I always carry my phone on my front left pocket 😅
The closest I got is a 7 Plus from a relative so I'll give that a try!

I’m actually considering getting the Mini. I was wondering how all were planning to return the phones and update? Isn’t there a 14 day window? What phone will you be using in the meantime?

Well, orders placed directly with Apple Online Store have a 14 day return period indeed so I assume that people will just return them via mail as they came.
