A) I don't need it so nobody gets it.
B) We must protect people who are dumb as bricks.

The first is severely intolerant and the second is part of Apple's creative Mission Statement.

Instead, we should all have it because a small minority of people want it and don't like Android. The iPhone is made to be a mass market device. I'd love if it had features it didn't, and I have to get over it because the iPhone isn't made for me.

Options and Settings, how do they work...?

...adding, like any number of current iOS options it could be Off by default, so that it's only enabled by those who want it.

Small minority of people want it? So I am assuming you did a survey of all the millions of iOS users and came up with that statement?
Or are you just speaking for everyone and making some random assumption with no facts?

A proven fact in my experience is people don't know what they want until they have it.

Why no add all the options, then? I want faster charging, maybe wireless charging. I want folders inside of folders inside of folders inside of folders. I want there to be a three flash system for the camera. I want a front facing flash. I want front facing stereo sound. Maybe we can get rid of the home button and instead have it be gesture controlled. I want VR.

Why can't I have everything I personally want?

And I'm assuming you did a survey to show that people actually want space to be taken up by an annoying light on the front?

I don't think so, but that's because:
A) I keep my phone next to my bed and don't need that crap.
B) I feel the average user would have no clue how to turn it off and would just find it annoying.

Nope. They normally run Android.
So that doesn't quite work out for those who like iOS and simply wish there were some additional features that were part of it.

Did I say if many persons want it or not? No I did not. Because I don't know, same as you don't know. So lets not make assumptions.

By the way, all that you just described in what you want in a phone....the Moto x Pure has everything you listed. So yes, you can have all you want in a phone. You're welcome.

Sometimes, a person has to decide if they want that feature enough to change OS. Is that ideal? No. Is that real life? Yes.

But then I don't have iMessage or my iCloud saves.

And part of it is discussing what someone might want to see in forums like this one.

You didn't state you wanted I message or iCloud saves. However look how much you gain compared to how much you lose with an iPhone. Lol.

In terms of sheer numbers, I am losing out on a lot. It's all what I value more.

That I'm going to criticize your posts...
Discussing things is one thing, effectively saying "stop talking about it and go elsewhere" or "I don't care about this and so no one else should" is rather another.

I've generally just been saying why I feel it shouldn't be added. If all you want is a group of people telling you how awesome the idea is, tough.

Sorry, but "go get another phone" type of posts are not the things you are describing.

That aside, it's still odd that people would feel something against some feature that they could simply not use and not be affected by or even notice in any way.

If they like the aesthetics of their phone, obviously they wouldn't want another random light hole on their phone.

Just as there are various ways that that can be done without affecting any of that, as has been discussed earlier in the thread.

This is a ten page thread. I'm assuming that you can't add an LED light without adding a hole for the light, though.

Well your assumption is wrong. There are various models of Android phones that has the LED behind the speaker grill. There is no possibly way to see it with it off. Hence the aesthetics does not change. What will be your next excuse?

I haven't seen that. How does it work?

That doesn't make the discussion that happened earlier within it any less useful even if someone joins in later in.

The OP has an absolutely valid point and it is a missed opportunity. I want an LED indicator yesterday. Forget the complainers, I don't want or need the front-facing camera either, but I still have the decency to see its utility for other people, especially when it doesn't affect me in any way. It's one phone, no choices; it ought to cover all reasonable use cases and people should expect of Apple to be inclusive.

I'd rather not include the light (my Nexus has it disabled) but I believe there are more creative implementations

For the nexus 5x it is under the front facing speaker grill. There is a next phone, can't recall the model and it is beneath the speaker grill you use for calls. Basically the speaker grill have holes for sound to come through, beneath it is an LED. When it illuminates it shines through the speaker grill holes. You should be able to YouTube nexus 5x notification light go see an example.

If the iPhone had ambient display then the notification light would not be needed as much (although still useful in some cases). However the iPhone don't use either. I think the apple would more go for ambient display, however based on reports, that won't be a possibility until 2018.
