Hello guys
What is the video playback resolution of the X?
Is it 2k or is it full HD?

I honestly don't know.

But I think you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference on a 5" screen.

HDR has a much bigger impact, and the iPhone X displays it really nicely.

It is 2436x1125, so is better than full HD but it’s not 4K.

The YouTube app now allows 1440P videos to be shown full screen on the X and they do look stunning.

Honestly though, the biggest improvement in image quality is HDR and with apps like Netflix now showing HDR in their app for the X, they look staggering.

People get too hung up on the numbers for resolution and especially with TV’s, you have to be so close to the screen to tell the difference between 2K and 4K that it almost becomes irrelevant. 1080P with HDR in the real world looks better than 4K without HDR.

Here is a link to a document that explains it http://carltonbale.com/1080p-does-matter/

Essentially with a 65” TV, you have to be sat at 4’ or closer to see the difference in resolution over 2K images which is not practical or desirable, so on the X, it looks amazing with all sources I’ve tried, but HDR takes it to another level.

Full HD is 1080p. Do you mean Ultra HD or 4k?
Full HD requires a display of 1920 x 1080 pixels, so the iPhone X does support that. While it can shoot 4K video, it would have compress/downsample 4k video for playback if I’m not mistaken. It’s display is not high enough resolution for 4k playback at the native resolution.

I think it has video playback of 1080p but like on 5 inch display. Nowhere near real 2k...
4k is not supported by the screen.
I had gionee elife e7 with 1080p screen 5.5 inch back in 2013 (same is like on 6,7,8 plus) and then lg g3 with real 2k 5.5 inch screen and there is a huge difference.
Also I had 5, 5s and 6, but I think I will go with Sony true 4k hdr screen.
Thx for your answers!

It has a resolution that exceeds 2K so not sure what you mean by “nowhere near real2K” but as you say, doesn’t do 4K.

There are other factors to consider when buying a new phone, rather than just video playback resolution but if you’ve got to have 4K, then your options are limited.

As I said before, you have to view the screen from such a small distance to see the difference between 2K and 4K it becomes a pointless exercise and just a numbers game.

Whatever your choice, enjoy it. I’d just recommend to look at your short list first and compare the devices and then you can make up your mind

Honestly, don’t know and don’t care, iPhones have such tiny screens you’d be hard pushed to notice a difference between 1080p and 4K at normal viewing difference.

Or at least I do, even side by side, iPhone X playing a 4K video and iPhone 7+ playing a 1080p. Normal distance, no biggie and there’s nothing wrong with my eyesight.

I mean look at the viewing distances for 1080p and 4K tv’s, it’s the same principle. Unless your phones up at your nose it doesn’t really matter.

Unless of course you’re considering using it in a VR headset, then you notice a difference with a higher resolution.
